Word Wall

Year 1 created a wonderful word carpet today. They imagined that they were near the stream in the 3 Billy Goats Gruff story. Stream sound effects filled the classroom, and Mrs Simonson wrote the words and phrases suggested by the children.

Here are some examples of the setting vocabulary:

Abbie described the ‘shallow water’. Amenab and Yakub spoke about ‘ large tall trees’ on the bank. Maariya described the ‘ brown gooey mud’ and Jacob said the water was ‘ icy cold’. Riley said the water was ‘splashing on the side of the rocks’ and Robbie said the water was ‘flowing’.

We then took a walk through the word carpet – even more effective if you cannot see and just listen to the words!
