Amazing Animals!

As part of our Science topic Year 1 welcomed two reptiles into the classroom today. Marvin the baby tortoise roamed around the empty sand tray, trying to find a way to climb out. Luckily the sides were too high, which meant the children were able to look closely at his shell, notice how he used his claws, and also try and see his beak ( yes, he had a sharp beak that he uses as a tooth!)

We then looked at a snake – first of all seeing the snakeskin that had been shed, then at the python.

The children asked lots of questions and are looking forward to seeing more animals later this week. Mmmmmm? Will they see a mammal, reptile, bird, fish or amphibian? Will it be a carnivore, herbivore or omnivore? Watch out for more pictures later on.
