Refugee Week

This week we have been exploring Refugee Week. Our children have been investigating friends and how we welcome people into our school.

We have also discussed what the word refugee means and then thought about what it would be like for those people who have to go on a journey to be safe. We read ‘My name is not Refugee’ together and looked at the questions on each page. We had some of the questions on our sheet where we could write or draw an answer that was personal to us. We then imagined what we would like the world to be like. We decided it should be a safe, happy and loving place for everyone.

We then thought about how we could welcome people who have arrived in our city and might be feeling a little bit nervous. We made Welcome posters that were inviting and friendly and we reminded ourselves that a smile is understood in every language.
