Phonics and Reading
Letters and Sounds is the resource we use at St Michael's to support the systematic teaching of phonics. Children begin the Letters and Sounds programme at the start of Nursery, every child between Nursery and Year 2 have a 20 minute phonics session each day. The strategic teaching of phonics ensures that children are progressing through the different stages at the appropriate rate. Targeted intervention groups support children who require further consolidation in Early Years, Key Stage One and Key Stage Two.
The Letters and Sounds programme is separated into six Phases - your child's teacher will be able to tell you which Phase your child is currently working on.
We hope the following glossary is useful. Always feel free to come in and talk to us if you require any further support.
