Holocaust

To mark the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland we invited Mrs Gabrielle Kenneghan, an Austrian Holocaust survivor into our school to give the children in UKS2 a first hand account of her experience as a refugee and a survivor of the Holocaust. Her talk was enthralled and Year 5 and 6 were rapt to her every word. Mrs Kenneghan spoke of her own personal feeling that of how we need to promote tolerance and respect in our current society and explained how it’s important to learn from what has happened in the past to ensure we never repeat history. We are currently applying for a school of sanctuary award and one of our aims is to raise the children awareness of refugee and people who seek sanctuary around the world. A huge thank you to Mrs Kenneghan for sharing her personal experience.
