Tasty fun in the Year 1 Cafe

November 22, 2019

Year 1 continued their investigation of senses, this week our focus was the sense of taste.

We looked at our tongues and talked about where on the tongue the sweet/sour/salty tastes could be distinguished. Then we invited the children to the Year 1 café to investigate different food.  Look at their faces as they tasted sour lemons!

Then we investigated whether we needed any other senses in order to taste – and our ‘Big Question’ was – Do we need our sense of smell in order to taste?

Robbie said he liked being blindfolded and not knowing what he was eating.  Abbie said ‘the potato was bitter’ and Betty showed good understanding when she said ‘ We were tasting food and the front of the tongue is for sweet’
