Y6 and Reception met their buddies this week! They had lots of fun learning about each other and playing in the Secret Garden. Lots of new special friendships were made and Y6 looked after Reception really well, as they are still new to our school. We are looking forward to performing our Buddy Assembly to our Family on Wednesday 9th October 2019!
Today in RE, we held a Collective Worship which focused on forgiveness. We thought about the story of Joseph and his brothers and what forgiveness was shown in that story. We all wrote down something we wanted to say sorry for, and placed it in a bowl of water as a sign of our sins being forgiven.
We completed a conscience alley when looking at the story of Ruth and Naomi. Miya acted as Ruth and half of us were giving Ruth reasons to go with Naomi, and the other half giving reasons why she shouldn’t. We acted as her conscience. After hearing all of the reasons, Ruth decided she would go with Naomi.
Year 1 have been working scientifically this week. They are investigating if people with bigger feet also have bigger heads and hands. They have used simple equipment to take measurements, and have talked about the data they have gathered. Look at the teamwork and laughter they have had. Science is fun in Year 1.
Today in Literacy, we became mini-teachers. We treated our classroom like a gallery of our best work in Year 4 so far. In pairs, we read through other peoples work in class and wrote down what we thought was really great in it, for example presentation or adjectives. We even got to magpie some ideas from others!
Today we focused on comparing 4 digit numbers and deciding whether we needed to use the greater than, less than or equals to sign. We looked at pictorial and numeral examples and worked in pairs to see who could hold up their board the fastest!
The year 5/6 football continued their season in the ESFS cup tonight playing 3 games. They got beat in their first game 2-1 against English Martyrs before 2 great wins against Hilton primary 3-0 and Cheviot primary 1-0 narrowly missing out on qualifying for the next round. Well done team!
Science club week 2 This week we began our investigation of vision – how our eyes and our brain process images. The children made a spinner with an image on each side. They were amazed to see what happened when they twirled the string quickly to make the spinner spin. If you see them ask them to try and explain how it works – and they cannot use the word “magic!”
