General Information

St Michael’s Primary School is a Roman Catholic School, situated in Elswick, Newcastle.

Opened over fifty years ago, St Michael’s is now a thriving, successful school. In October 2016 the school had an external Ofsted Inspection which placed the school in ‘Special Measures.’ As a result of lots of hard work from our staff, children and wider community, the school is now on the road to rapid school improvement, determined to be the best place to send your children.

St Michael’s provides a broad and exciting education for children aged four to eleven. Providing children with a secure environment that actively encourages their academic, personal, spiritual and social development is of the utmost importance. The school is developing a strong reputation for high standards and our external checks are proving that we are rapidly improving.

The home is where education begins and we aim to build on this by enriching the children’s experience of living in a Christian atmosphere of love, forgiveness understanding and tolerance.  Children who are 4 years old before 31st August will begin school in the following autumn term.  Those children in our nursery who are starting St Michael’s School spend a few sessions in their designated Reception class during the latter part of the summer term.  They also play alongside the Reception children in the outdoor learning environment and become familiar with the Reception staff who visit them.

A meeting is held in the summer term for the parents of those children starting school in the following September.  Parents will have the opportunity to meet all staff involved with children in our school. At this meeting we make time to chat with parents so that we can get a clear picture of each child’s personal needs and discuss health or dietary issues. Parents will need to complete an application form supplied by the Local Authority to secure a place at a school. Using this link you can apply for your child’s place online.

In September 2017 we became a part of Sacred Heart Partnership of School. They are supporting our journey of improvement, challenging us to best the best we can be. We are determined that St Michael’s becomes outstanding as soon as possible.

I personally guarantee that your children will thrive in our school. They deserve the best. I look forward to working with you.
